Busy Bee bids farewell to stalwarts

It was with great sadness that Busy Bee Primary School bid farewell to two of its stalwarts

NEWCASTLE – It was with great sadness that Busy Bee Primary School bid farewell to two of its stalwarts, Eliza Raubenheimer and Sandy Collyer, who end their teaching careers at the end of May.

Mrs Raubenheimer started her teaching career in 1972 in Bloemfontein.

She moved to Newcastle in 1976, where she took a post at Drakensberg Primary School, as a Grade 1 teacher.

After several years at the school, she took up a post at Busy Bee as the Head of Department in 1990, where she was promoted to school principal in 2009.

Through the years, Mrs Raubenheimer kept herself updated with technology, the Internet, and introduced inter-active white boards to the school.

At this stage, all the classes, from Grade 1 to Grade 7, have a white board, computer and Internet access.

Due to Mrs Raubenheimer’s efforts, some of the classes are even equipped with inter-active white boards, opening doors to a new world in the classroom.

Mrs Collyer has 43 years’ teaching experience. She started her teaching career at Busy Bee Primary School in 1993. Through her dedication, she was promoted to Head of Department of the Foundation Phase in July 2005.

She has been leading the Foundation Phase for many years, and the school thanks her for her diligence, and for making it the best foundation phase in Newcastle.

Pupils and staff alike salute Mrs Raubenheimer and Mrs Collyer for their years of dedication to the school and to teaching.

Honouring the two teachers, Busy Bee pupils held a concert, which ran from Tuesday, May 10, to Thursday, May 12.

Mrs Raubenheimer and Mrs Collyer were enchanted by the pupils’ performances, and found the concert endearing.
