Two wanted criminals shot and killed in Helpmekaar area

The suspects were on the run for few years from the police and they were wanted by Nhlanhleni police as well as Msinga police for a number of cases.

Two wanted suspects were shot and killed near Helpmekaar after they had opened fire on police who had approached the homestead they had taken refuge in.

Police said the Helpmekaar police, assisted by the Glencoe K9 Unit, were on an operation in the area to trace suspects wanted for

murder, rape, house robberies and armed robberies.

The members were following information about the whereabouts of two suspects at Buyafuthoi farm in Helpmekaar where they approached a homestead where the two suspects were hiding.

As they approached the house, the suspects allegedly fired shots at the members and police retaliated  in self-defence. One suspect was shot and killed and the second suspects  wounded. He died on his way to hospital.

The suspects were identified as Hlalabemnyakazisa Sikhakhane (44) and Shididi Dlamini (40). The suspects had been on the run for few years from the police and they were wanted by Nhlanhleni police as well as the  Msinga police for a number of cases.

The KwaZulu-Natal Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Bhekinkosi Langa warned the criminals not to shoot at police members. “They should  rather surrender if cornered by the members because police will defend themselves if attacked by the criminals. The recovered firearms will be sent for ballistic tests to check if they were used in any other crimes in the province,” he said.
