
The Uthukela Cluster Tactical Response Team (TRT) was out in force on Wednesday, arresting six people in the Cluster for possession-related cases.
The six suspects, aged between 19 and 36, were arrested for being in possession of an unlicensed firearm as well as drugs.
A 21-year-old man was arrested in Ezakheni E-Section after being found in possession of a homemade firearm. Police were amazed at the skill used in manufacturing the gun.
The suspect appeared in the Ezakheni Magistrate’s Court yesterday (Thursday).
A tip-off later led them to another location, also in the E-Section area, where it was alleged that people were using drugs.
When they pounced on the premises, they discovered two men smoking dagga. The two were charged for being in possession of a small amount of dagga and appeared in the Ezakheni Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
The same police officers were conducting patrols in the Ladysmith CBD later in the day when they arrested a 26-year-old man in the taxi rank.
He was found in possession of 10 mandrax tablets and 20 heroin straws. The value of the recovered drugs is estimated at R1100.
In addition, two men, aged 29 and 36, were arrested in Lyell Street after being found in possession of several heroin straws. The estimated street value of the heroin is around R5000. The suspects appeared in the Ladysmith Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
