A Blackberry Messenger (BBM) message is making the rounds amoung residents and causing a stir in communities in the wake of recent terror alerts.

NEWCASTLE – A Blackberry Messenger (BBM) message is making the rounds amoung residents, and causing a stir in communities in the wake of recent terror alerts to US and UK citizens visiting and residing in South Africa.

The message reads: “The US Embassy has advised members of the public to keep away from the following tourist spots on June 9 2016 due to terror attacks.”

Listed areas include: Liberty Mall in Pietermaritzburg, La Lucia Mall in Durban, Ballito Lifestyle Centre, Ballito Bay Mall (DBN), Trade Route Mall in Johannesburg, Kruger National Park (JHB), Mall of Africa (JHB), and V&A Waterfront in Cape Town.

“We urge our citizens to take precaution,” concludes the message.

It is unclear at this stage whether there is any truth to the message. However, no official statements have reportedly been published by the United States Department of Defense in this regard.
