The grade one class of St Gregory Primary School visited PicknPay on Wednesday, June 1, to introduce them to money and the workings of a supermarket.

Their journey through the supermarket taught them about the layout of the supermarket, different products, different brands of the same product, fresh produce versus frozen and where to find the price of an item. They also learnt about specials and the ways in which these promotional products are marked. Each of them had a turn to choose something to buy for a predetermined amount.

Miss Freese, their teacher, assisted them in estimating the total price of their items to ensure that they stayed within their budget. They lined up at the cash register and had the chance to see up close how the cashier rang up their products, received their money and counted out their change accompanied by a till slip.

The learners were treated to a surprise which PicknPay had organised in the form of a packet of chips and a lollipop.
Back at school, the learners investigated their till slips.

They learnt about the information printed on the slip and how it can be useful to the shopper. Miss Freese and the grade one class would like to thank PicknPay for making this educational trip a reality and for the yummy treats!
