BREAKING NEWS: House fire claims one

A fire in Paradise on Thursday morning had tragic consequences.

An elderly Paradise resident lost his life in a fire early this morning.

The wheelchair-bound man perished in the blaze, which broke out at about 5.30am, in a house on the corner Lincoln and Bird streets.

A suspected cause of the fire is a bar heater.

First responders, including Mark Jacobs of Two Eagles Security, commended emergency services for swift response.

“They were brilliant and took very little time to reach the scene.”

He also lauded the Paradise community, which assisted firefighters in breaking down a door to rescue an elderly woman inside the house.

A roof collapse prevented them from reaching the elderly man.
