Ten times Comrades runner rewarded

Mchunu is now preparing for his next race, the Soweto Marathon.

Kethokuhle Mchunu (37) was awarded his first green number after completing the Comrades Marathon ten times and this year he achieved his personal best time of 8h34.
Born and bred in Sibongile, Mchunu’s only wish is for more people from Sibongile to take part in the Comrades, citing that it is ‘important as a South African citizen’.

His vigorous training includes running up Mpati Mountain 2 – 3 hours every weekend, along with novices, Sicelo Ncala, Dudlane, Melusi Nzunza and Sparks Mabizela, all from Sibongile who Mchunu has taken under his wing to prepare for their first Comrades Marathon next year.

He is a member of the Biggarsberg Athletics Club which was represented by 20 runners at the Comrades this year.
