Working around the clock, KwaZulu-Natal police recovered 39 firearms and 180 rounds of ammunition in a one-week operation from June 12 to 19 in all KZN Clusters.
The recovered firearms include a shotgun, two homemade firearms and 36 pistols, along with an assortment of 180 live rounds of ammunition.
A total of 39 suspects were arrested and charged with possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition. They have appeared in various magistrate’s courts, with some appearing today (Tuesday).
The KZN Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Bhekinkosi Langa, praised the officers for the recovery of the unlicensed firearms. “We will ensure that we root out the proliferation of illegal firearms in this province to prevent serious and violent crimes,” he said.
