The brutal murder of a 65-year-old man in Forderville yesterday has sent shockwaves through the small community of Bangladesh.

People could be seen outside their homes and on the pavement, speaking in hushed tones to neighbours in Thirteenth Street, where the deceased spent his last moments.

A neighbour who spoke to a reporter from the Estcourt News yesterday said that she was cooking in her kitchen when she heard a commotion on the street outside her home. Rushing outside, she saw that the 65-year-old man was being beaten by a younger man.

“He was kicking and punching him and then used two stones. The man’s face was bloody. I brought him into my yard and gave him water,” explained the resident.

The badly beaten man thereafter staggered onto the pavement, where he died a few minutes later.

“We called the police and ambulance, which took two hours to arrive. Fortunately a private ambulance was called and when they arrived, his pulse was gone,” said the resident.

A man in his 30’s who allegedly assaulted the deceased was thereafter assaulted by family members and witnesses. He was later arrested by police.
