Creative lady makes and sells soaps

They are different shapes, sizes and colours to suit everyone’s taste

Yvonne Davenport has a unique hobby in that she likes to make her own bath soaps, bath salts and liquid hand soap. This is a somewhat lucrative little hobby too, as she also makes a living from what she does.

As a Ladysmith resident, Yvonne has three children. She matriculated from Ladysmith High School (LHS) and towards the end of last year, she entered the world of toiletries in a hands-on way.

At first, she made her “goodies” for home use only, but later on, after being told by her friends and family that her talent could be sought-after in the business world, she started making up gift parcels and selling them.

“I make my soaps from home and I enjoy every minute of it.

“They are different shapes, sizes and colours suitable for everyone’s taste.” When asked how long it takes to make soap, Yvonne replied, “It takes four hours for a bar of soap to set after I make it and place the liquid into moulds. “I also find it very relaxing to make my soaps and bath salts.

“Not only can I be creative and use my own imagination, but I really enjoy what I’m doing.

“It gives me a sense of accomplishment,” she smiles. Yvonne and her children are always at fêtes and markets, selling her items for some extra cash in the pocket. “I wouldn’t trade this hobby for anything!”
