Holy cow, let’s give our appreciation!

To celebrate 'Cow Appreciation Day', just be thankful you don’t have small pox and never will

“Cows are among the gentlest of breathing creatures; none show more passionate tenderness to their young when deprived of them; and, in short, I am not ashamed to profess a deep love for these quiet creatures” – Thomas de Quincey

Today (Friday) marks a special day for the bovine species, as we celebrate ‘Cow Appreciation Day’. So what does this all mean? Well, let’s take a look at an animal we would otherwise not pay too much attention to…

Cows play a huge role in our food cycle, in which they provide us with milk, butter, ice cream, delicious steaks and, of course, the value of remaining calm and just enjoying life.

Not only do they serve a good purpose in our food cycle, cows are regarded as a very important aspect in some cultural activities, with one of them being in the Zulu tradition (Ilobola) where a man produces a number of cows to the family of a woman he wishes to marry, and in doing so, the number of cows requested by the family represent her worth.

To celebrate ‘Cow Appreciation Day’, just be thankful you don’t have small pox and never will, and then go into your local burger joint and order yourself a great big bacon cheeseburger with a tall cool shake! There’s no better way to celebrate them than to truly appreciate their sacrifice.

Have a happy ‘Cow Appreciation Day’!
