Clothing businesses targeted

THE VRYHEID SAPS have launched a warning to shop-owners all around town to be very vigilant as robbers seem to be on the prowl.
According to the police’s Major Mbatha, this comes after the local Markham’s store was targeted on Wednesday last week.

It is alleged that three men entered the store shortly before closing time and pretended to be interested in some of the items in store. Once most shoppers had left, the men are said to have pulled out firearms, pointed them at the store manager and staff members and told them to lie down before tying their hands with cable ties and demanding keys to the safe from the manager.

In the safe, they took about R21000 cash, cellphones and made off with some clothing.
No arrests have yet been made.

SAPSShop owners are urged to be very careful and to keep an eye out for suspiciouslooking people, especially those who enter their shops just before closing time. They are usually in groups of three or four. If you feel that something isn’t right, press your panic button, or contact the police/ security company immediately,” said Major Mbatha.
