Being a man in Men’s Month and beyond

THE Methodist Church of Southern Africa in Vryheid circuit had a discussion led by The Young Men’s Guild under the theme, “To be a man in the new dispensation.”
The discussion was held in Bhekuzulu on July 16 and the keynote address was made by Mr SSS Mhlungu. In his remarks, he said that men should be the agents of change.
His point of departure was the word of God from Psalm 119 verse 9 to 11, ”How can a young man keep his way pure? By guarding it according to your word. With my whole heart I seek you; let me not wander from your commandments! I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.”
“As July is Men’s Month, men must be the agents of change in society at large, not only in July. As men, we are God’s firstborn and it is imperative that we must not leave our place as such.”
“To be a man means more responsibility, especially while the economy and politics are against us. This requires men to rise above their situation. As men, we cannot live with instinct. Men must be reliable for their children…”
On behalf of the Young Men’s Guild, we convey our sincere gratitude to the committee and Mr Mhlungu for the information he has shared with us.
