
MADADENI – Two men were found guilty in the Madadeni Magistrate’s Court of raping a woman in February 2009.

According to police, the victim was at her boyfriend’s house, when the suspects threatened her with broken beer bottles and raped her.
“She knew the suspects and was able to identify them. The case was handed to the Newcastle FCS Unit for further investigations,” said Lizzy Arumugam of SAPS Communications.
The first suspect was arrested on May 11, 2009. and the second suspect was arrested on August 7, 2009.
“The accused were granted bail. One suspect absconded bail and proceeded to flee from the area.”

On February 15, Investigating Officer, Constable Cele, received information on the whereabouts of the wanted suspect, whereupon he was arrested.
The first suspect was convicted and sentenced on December 7, 2010, and was sentenced to 13 years in prison.
The second suspect finally had his day in court on July 18, and was convicted and sentenced to 13 years behind bars.
“The victim thanked the investigating officers for their dedication, hard work and perseverance,” Mrs Arumugam concluded.
