Fracking presentation at Town Hall
The proposed exploration area that is located within Emnambithi/Ladysmith Municipality is an area of approximately 77,490 hectares, extending from Ladysmith through Watersmeet and east of Besters

The Motuoane Energy (Pty) Ltd company, who are applicants for an exploration right for hydrocarbons, are currently at the Ladysmith Town Hall for an open day meeting.
The purpose of the meeting is based on informing community members, along with farmers within Emnambithi/Ladysmith Municipality, about the application they have proposed to the Petroleum Agency of South Africa (PASA) to explore for oil and gas in the form of “fracking”.
They have been at the Town Hall since this morning and will be there until around 4pm.
‘Fracking’ is a process of injecting water under high pressure into rocks to force open existing fissures and extract oil and gas trapped inside, which raises a major concern around the pollution of surface and underground water supplies.
