All of KwaZulu-Natal will have electricity, says Premier

President Jacob Zuma – along with Minister of Enterprises Lynne Brown, KwaZulu-Natal Premier Willies Mchunu and Ladysmith Mayor Vincent Madlala – were at the launch of the commercialisation of Ingula’s Unit 4 yesterday (Wednesday).
In his speech, Premier Mchunu stated that 81 per cent of KwaZulu-Natal has electricity and that the remaining 19% is being worked on and will soon be available now that Unit 4 at the Ingula Pumped Storage Scheme has been launched.
President Jacob Zuma stated that Ingula has injected more than R3.5 billion into the local economies of Phumelela Local Municipality in the Free State, Alfred Duma Local Municipality and uThukela District Municipality.
“Ingula has also created jobs, with 55 per cent of the total labour force being taken from local communities and municipalities in the Free State and KwaZulu-Natal,” the President added.
In his conclusion, President Zuma stated that in the past six years, more than 2000 learners have benefitted from various educational initiatives (such as computer labs) and that school-going children in the area now have 17 new classrooms to be educated in.
