Mthashana TVET College hosts first Workers Inter-Campus Sports Day

Mthashana TVET College staff promoted wellness and teamwork through their inaugural inter-campus sports day.

Staff of Mthashana TVET College recently participated in the first-ever Workers Inter-Campus Sports Day, held at the NRS sports ground and AbaQulusi tennis court.

The event brought together staff from across the college’s campuses for a day of friendly competition, teamwork and wellness.

Upon arrival, participants received a warm welcome, while the Department of Health’s mobile clinic offered voluntary blood pressure, glucose and general wellness screenings. The participants started off by taking part in a 10-minute warm-up session aimed at preventing injuries.

Friendly competition builds teamwork

Staff members then competed in a variety of sporting codes, including soccer, netball, volleyball and tennis.

Employee Health and Wellness Practitioner at Mthashana TVET College, Mveli Mayekiso, said the event exceeded expectations.

“The Workers Inter-Campus Sports Day was a huge success. You wouldn’t say it was the first event of its kind to be held at the college. It was organised by our Employee Health and Wellness Unit to boost staff morale, reduce stress and foster team cohesion through friendly physical activities.

“The event also encouraged cross-departmental collaboration, supported employees’ physical health and promoted a healthy work-life balance, ultimately contributing to improved workplace productivity and engagement.”

Teams selected for inter-college games

The finals of each sporting code were held in the afternoon. The soccer finalists competed for the Metropolitan Floating Trophy, while the netball and volleyball finalists battled it out for Metropolitan Championship Medals. Tennis players competed for the Toyota Singles and Doubles Trophy.

The day concluded with coaches and selectors announcing the final soccer, netball, volleyball and tennis squads that will represent Mthashana TVET College at the inter-college games hosted by Majuba TVET College on July 17.
