Suspected of rape and abduction, S’bongiseni Vumani Ntshangase has been evading police as a search for him continues. The 24-year-old is wanted for questioning after two cases of assault, abduction and rape surfaced in Winterton.
In the first instance on July 16, it is alleged that the man entered a home of a 23-year-old woman in the Khetani location and raped her before assaulting her with a spade. Later the same day at about 10pm, police believe that the suspect and two other accomplices abducted a 35-year-old woman from the Khetani location.
The woman was assaulted and forced into a blue two-door vehicle.
“The vehicle broke down near the N3 and two of the suspects then left to get assistance. At this time the woman managed to escape from the vehicle and seek help from police,” commented police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Thulani Zwane.
Since then, the suspect has been on the run and a warrant of arrest has been issued.
“Ntshangase is known to have family in Driefontein, near Ladysmith as well as Ezakheni. He may be hiding anywhere in the country,” added Lt Col Zwane.
