Miss Newcastle gets kind hearts racing

Stepping into the saddle has been met with enthusiasm from the community, explained Courtney Smith.

Losing weight can help those facing a bleak winter. Through Miss Newcastle, Courtney Smith and Curves Women’s Gym, the recently launched food drive has seen great success. The donation-based classes wrapped up on Saturday.

“While we didn’t get a lot of women there on the day, we were able to get a lot of food donations, which is lovely,” explained Courtney.

She described the afternoon as a fun class, the women taken through their paces with dance-based exercise, Zumba.
Courtney thanked the instructors for their expertise and compassion.

“Curves will continue to be a drop-off point, should anyone else wish to donate.”

In terms of her preparation for the Amashova Durban Classic in October, Courtney was pleased to announced the first pledge, received from Warren Wade. A second donation was given by Elaine Beeslaar, on condition Courtney completed the race.

“So all over, it has been a great week. It’s going really well; everyone has been cycling through the week and attending spinning classes.”

Unfortunately, Allan Villiers suffered a hard fall, which left him in the casualty ward. Despite this, Courtney said he was making a concerted effort to recover quickly, and looked forward to getting back in the saddle.
