Busy weekend ahead for Dundee golfers

There were three lucky winners of the Jackpot....

A number of members obviously took Monday off from work and went away for an extended weekend, as there were only 27 golfers who participated in Saturday’s Monthly Mug competition at Dundee Country Club. The Men’s A and B divisions, as well as the Ladies B division, were all very closely contested affairs. In the Men’s A division, Zaheer Adam just managed to beat Billy Francis and win the Mug by two shots, only thanks to his handicap being two higher than Billy’s, as they both recorded an excellent round of 72.

In the Men’s B division, the winner had to be decided by a play-off between two Zimbabwean friends, Clement Chawanda and Blessing Chiwaya, with Clement taking the honours and winning the Mug on the first play-off hole. The Ladies B division was also closely contested, as Debbie Catlett just managed to hold off Lorien De Witt and beat her by one shot to win the Mug. Hllengiwe Hlongwane picked up her first Monthly Mug when winning the Ladies C division on a net 69. There were three lucky winners of the Jackpot: Z Adam, C Chawanda and H Hlongwane all had a share of the prize money to go with their respective Monthly Mugs.

The club is looking forward to a very busy weekend ahead. The Coal Mining Golf Day takes place on Friday, August 12 with a shotgun start at 1pm and on Saturday, August 13, the Doctors Golf Day, an I.P.S. event, is fully subscribed with a 120 golfers starting from 8am.
