Victim of robbery on the road to recovery

Three men armed with a firearm and knives entered Mr Mu's shop and held him at gunpoint, demanding cash.

NEWCASTLE – The victim of a robbery that took place on Voortrekker Street on Sunday, July 31, has been identified as 30-year-old Chinese businessman, Yang Jing Mu.

According to police reports, three men armed with a firearm and knives entered Mr Mu’s shop and held him at gunpoint, demanding cash.

A struggle ensued between the attackers and Mr Mu, and he was shot and then stabbed several times .

The robbers fled the scene with cellphones and about R5000 in cash.

Mr Mu’s wife and baby were also in the shop at the time of the robbery, and escaped injury.

Mr Mu was taken to Mediclinic Newcastle for treatment, but has since been discharged and is recovering at home.

No arrests have been made and further police investigations continue.
