10 suspects will have to spend the night behind bars in Ladysmith. They were arrested during the course of the day today and will be facing charges of possession of two stolen vehicles as well as possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
Early yesterday morning 9Wednesday) , four men aged between 21 and 31 were discovered seated in a VW Polo. The suspicious vehicle was parked in the Acacivale area.
When police interviewed the men they immediately knew that something was wrong.
On searching the vehicle it was discovered that they were in possession of gloves and cable ties. A check on the vehicle revealed that it had been stolen late last year in Westville Durban.
Further investigation during the day led to the arrest of six other suspects aged between 21 and 38 in the St Chads area.
They were driving in a white BMW that was discovered to have been stolen earlier this year in Cleveland.
The six men were found to be in possession of an illegal 9mm firearm, ammunition and a cutting torch. It is suspected that the men are linked to a spate of robberies that have taken place recently in the area.
The two vehicles have been impounded and police are busy profiling the suspects. All ten men will appear in the Ladysmith Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
