NEWCASTLE – Susan Briscoe was devastated after finding her four dogs dead in her yard yesterday morning, and firmly believes her fury babies might have been poisoned.

Mrs Gero of the Newcastle SPCA said although Temik [two-step] was the common poison used to kill dogs, any number of other poisons could have been used, and added it was also possible there could have been a secondary poisoning, which occurs if a rat had ingested poison, and the dogs then ate the dead rat.
Although it was not in the SPCA’s jurisdiction once a pet was already dead, she said all animal poisonings should be reported to the SPCA, for record-keeping and to compile a report for higher departments.
Mrs Gero said the only way to determine if it was indeed Temik which killed Mrs Bricoe’s dogs, was for her to have an autopsy done at a veterinarian.
Thereafter, she advised Mrs Briscoe to file an official report at the Newcastle police station, in order for them to try and find the culprits.

“If there is someone purposely poisoning the dogs in Newcastle, imagine trading places with those poor animals? It is the most painful way of dying,” Mrs Gero concluded.
