CHORAL music rang out through the halls of Inkamana Abbey on a chilly Saturday evening as local and visiting choristers gathered to sing for a full house.
The local NRS school choir started off the evening, opening for the two visiting groups, the KZN Midlands Youth Choir and the NKZN Youth Choir, on August 13 at the idyllic Inkamana Abbey, just outside of Vryheid, on the shores of Klipfontein Dam.
William Silk, the conductor of the KZN Midlands Youth Choir, lends a local angle to the event, being an old Nardini and Vryheid High School pupil, who is now Head of Cultural Development at Michaelhouse School.
Ricka Willemse conducts the NKZN Youth Choir, whose choristers are selected from the High Schools in and around the Vryheid, Newcastle, Utrecht, Dundee and Ladysmith.
Despite the icy chill in the air, the vigour and enthusiasm of the vivacious young vocalists added a warmth to the evening that kept the audience captivated throughout each energetic performance, right up until the final act.
The choristers and the crowd were united in a musical moment of song and dance and excited audience members streamed onto the stage to join the choir members after the finalè.
