Chinese shop owner pistol-whipped during robbery

The men made off with a substantial amount of cash.

Weeks after the Chinese community announced the launch of a Chinese/SAPS Co-operation Centre to fight crime against the community, a Chinese shop owner was pistol-whipped and robbed in Glencoe late yesterday.

Three men entered the shop in the Glencoe Spar Centre on the pretext of buying bags at around 5pm. After waiting until the last customer had left the shop, the men attacked the owner, who was alone in his shop. He was pistol-whipped and the men made off with a substantial amount of cash.

The 42-year-old shop owner suffered injuries to his ears during the attack.
It is not clear if the men fled on foot or had a getaway vehicle waiting. A police manhunt is continuing.
