Update: Wanted suspect shot by police (Video included)
The officers had no choice but to retaliate
On Sunday morning, officers from the Ladysmith K9 Unit were in pursuit of a suspect wanted for a case of business burglary that occurred earlier this year.
The 30-year-old suspect was traced to Alexandra Street and a chase ensued, but the suspect managed to elude police. He was allegedly armed at the time.
The officers later received information that he was on a minibus taxi which was on its way out of town.
They managed to stop the vehicle at the corner of Dry Road and Short Street. The suspect attempted to escape out of a window and drew his weapon on approaching officers. The officers had no choice but to retaliate.
The suspect sustained a gunshot wound to the body and was admitted to a local hospital, where he is currently under police guard. He was found in possession of a gas gun, drugs, cash and knives.
Some of the property had been stolen during a housebreaking on Saturday night.
The man faces charges including being in possession of suspected stolen property, and detectives are confident that he will be linked to other cases.
