St Greg’s has a busy sporting week

Newcomer to hockey, Teboho Madlela, once again proved his worth on the field to be named Most Promising Player

The week’s sport kicked off with the U9 and U10 girls from St Gregory playing their very first soccer match on Monday, September 12.

The girls did their best, but their Mooi River Primary School opponents proved to be too strong and they lost the match 0-1. Amahle Dladla’s passion and will to keep trying earned her the Player of the Match award which she shared with Thandiswa Mzobe who was rock solid as goal keeper. The Most Promising Player was awarded to emerging defender Amahle Mabaso.

The senior girls faced Mooi River Primary School on Wednesday, September 14. The girls had a rough introduction to the game of soccer in a match they lost 0-3. Amahle Dladla was once again on fire to earn her second Player of the Match award for the week. Nwabisa Sithole held the team’s spirit alive in the midfield and was named Most Promising Player.

The U9 and U10 boys took on Estcourt Christian Academy (ECA) in a hockey match on Thursday, September 15. ECA scored an early goal, but the St Greg’s boys fought back valiantly to end the game in a two all draw.

The decision to move Simphiwe Vilakazi from his usual position as goal keeper to a forward paid off dividends as he scored both the team’s goals and earned himself the Player of the Match award. Newcomer to hockey, Teboho Madlela, once again proved his worth on the field to be named Most Promising Player.
