Liquor licence scam doing the rounds

For your own safety police advise anyone receiving such SMS’s to first verify the bank details before handing over any money

There is yet another scam doing the rounds and, this time, it involves liquor licences.

Police said a Ladysmith liquor outlet owner has brought to their  attention an incident which he believes to be a scam. The owner of the liquor outlet received an SMS requesting that he make a deposit of R250 for the renewal of the liquor licence. However, after verifying with the National Liquor Board, he discovered that the bank details provided in the SMS was not that of the Liquor Authority.

“For your own safety police advise anyone receiving such SMS’s to first verify the bank details before handing over any money and to ensure that they contact the Liquor Authority in order to verify the contents of the SMS,” said police spokesman, Lt Col Thulani Zwane.
