Local learner victorious in Accounting Olympiad
When Nosipho was asked how she felt about her results, she said she wasn’t expecting to win
Ladysmith High School (LHS) learner Nosipho Mtshali competed in the National Junior Accounting Olympiad that saw 3904 Grade 9 learners from 416 schools around the country taking part.
The National Junior Accounting Olympiad recognises young accounting talent and nurtures an interest in accounting as a profession among South African students. After lots of preparation and hard work, Nosipho tied with two other students in first place in the KZN region.
When Nosipho was asked how she felt about her results, she said she wasn’t expecting to win. “I took extra lessons at school as part of my preparation. I also stayed up all night practicing my accounting skills,” said a cheerful Nosipho.
Bongiwe Mtshali, Nosipho’s mom, expressed delight, saying she is very proud of her daughter for winning. Nosipho has dreams of being a chartered accountant and will do her best to make that dream come true.
The winners of the Olympiad were awarded with a Vodafone VF685 Smart Kicka. Nosipho has made her school and the town of Ladysmith incredibly proud.
