On October 24, the team of officials from the Department of economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs visited Phumelelani Primary School to assess the school.
This was part of the 2016 School Environmental Education Programme, which seeks to understand and assess how the school deals with healthy environments, green projects, culture, outdoors and environmental education, art, technology, a healthy environment and language and environmental education.
In preparing for this a number of programmes were initiated by the school such as a bin project, clean-up campaign, a beauty contest and a concert on recycle, reduce and reuse. This event was enjoyed by everyone.
We are grateful for the support from the School Governing Body (SGB), parents, teachers and learners in making these events a success.
However, the school is still lacking in green projects and therefore appeals to the local community and neighbouring towns to lend a hand in donating trees, flowers and seeds to help improve the environment. Even extra trees that have been disposed of could still be replanted and will be accepted.
