SASSA scam – never give out your number to callers

'I called SASSA now and they don't know of any such offer of food parcels.'

Residents have been warned to be on the look-out for yet another scam doing the rounds.  This time the scam involves the South African Social Security Agency, SASSA.

A caller told the Courier that she received a telephone call this morning from a woman claiming to be from SASSA.

“She said she needed my mum’s SASSA card number as they want to deliver a R500 food parcel to the door. Fortunately,  I did not have the card with me. I called SASSA now and they don’t know of any such offer of food parcels. Please inform all your pensioners not to give out their ID numbers and/or their card number as SASSA will never call grantees.”
