KZN police warn of fake SAPS jobs on WhatsApp

KZN police are warning the public about fake SAPS jobs being offered for R15 000.

Police in KwaZulu-Natal are warning members of the public about WhatsApp messages offering fake South African Police Service (SAPS) jobs in exchange for R15 000.

The bogus messages are being sent to unsuspecting people and use a WhatsApp profile picture of KwaZulu-Natal Deputy Provincial Commissioner for Corporate Services, Major General (Dr) SB Ngcobo.

Scammers demand R15 000

According to police, scammers promise the recipient employment in the SAPS and then immediately send an application form.

The victim is told to pay R15 000 for the supposed job, with an initial deposit of R7 500 required and the balance payable once employment papers are signed.

Police urge public to be cautious

Police are urging members of the public to be cautious of such messages and to report them at their nearest police station.

“Employment in the South African Police Service is not for sale. Nobody should be asked to pay to get employed in the police. Whoever is doing so is committing a crime,” said Lieutenant Colonel Paul Magwaza.

Do not make any payments

Members of the public are urged not to make any payments in response to these bogus job offers.
