Celebrations abound at Estcourt Sai Centre
With a diverse and large following, Sai Baba's legacy and teachings have spread across the globe
In a devotional and celebratory mood, members of the Estcourt Sai Centre hosted Swami Sathya Baba’s 91st birthday on Wednesday, November 23.
Devotees gathered at the Sai Mandir at 53 First Avenue where they performed a hawan (a religious ceremony that involves worship through the use of a sacred fire) to begin the birthday celebration.

Thereafter devotional songs and speeches about Swami Sathya Baba were rendered. Devotees spoke of Baba’s birth on November 23, 1926. After a snake was found in his cradle, sages declared that the child was divine. From a young age, Baba performed miracles by using a wave of his hand.

Through the years, Swami Sathya Baba embarked on many projects, such as building schools, universities and hospitals. With a diverse and large following, Sai Baba’s legacy and teachings have spread across the globe. Devotees also encouraged those present to practice Baba’s legacy of seva and helping the poor.
The children from the Balvikas class also entertained the audience with a short play. Thereafter the birthday cake was cut and an offering made before devotees enjoyed a sumptuous vegetarian supper.
