Reliving the Lord’s love story
Estcourt Hospice Association hosts the Tree of Lights ceremony each year and it is dedicated to the memory of loved ones or to send best wishes to friends or family during the festive season
With the approaching festive season, memories of loved ones who have died creep into our minds. Happier times spent in their company will remain forever etched in our hearts and minds and remembering them keeps these memories alive.
To keep these memories alight, Estcourt Hospice Association hosts the Tree of Lights ceremony each year and it is dedicated to the memory of loved ones or to send best wishes to friends or family during the festive season. The annual ceremony took place on Friday at the Estcourt Methodist Church at 6.30pm.

Locals gathered inside the church as the ceremony kicked off with board member LeRoy Gericke reflecting on the year and thanking individuals from Hospice for their hard work and dedication throughout the year. A message of God was delivered by Reverend James Adams, who spoke about Christmas time being a reflection of the ‘Lord’s love story.”
He substantiated by relating how Jesus’ birth, like the work that Hospice does, shines light in dark times and brings hope when disease strikes.
“Christmas should be a time for breaking down barriers and recognising that we are all created in the image of God. Our challenge should be to make love happen, let’s be human towards each other,” said Reverend Adams
.
He also said a fond farewell to locals as he will be leaving Estcourt to spread the word of God in another community. Bible verses were read and Pastor Ben Pretorius concluded the ceremony with a prayer.

Thereafter everyone moved outside where the Tree of Lights was switched on, amid oohs and aahs.

The ceremony was concluded with tea and eats. Remember you can still purchase a message for the Hospice Tree of Lights. The messages will be printed in the final edition of the Estcourt News on Wednesday, December 21. For more information call Hospice on 036 352 5634.
