Vryheid learner shines in Physical Science Olympiad
KwaNotshelwa learner Lindokuhle Ndlozi excels in the Physical Sciences Olympiad and aims for a matric distinction.
Lindokuhle Ndlozi, a Grade 12 learner from KwaNotshelwa High School, is proving that determination and hard work can lead to excellent results.
Strong performance in Olympiad
Ndlozi recently took part in three rounds of the Physical Science Olympiad, competing against other learners at local, Circuit Management Centre (CMC) and district level.
The aspiring doctor, who hopes to specialise as an oncologist, wrote both the Physics and Chemistry papers during the competition. At local level, Ndlozi was among the top three learners who performed well. He continued to perform strongly at CMC level, where he scored 79% and obtained third position. At district level, he achieved a score of 78%.
Inspired by grandmother’s battle with cancer
Ndlozi said his dream of becoming a doctor was inspired by the loss of his grandmother to cancer.
“The main reason I want to study medicine after Grade 12 is because my late grandmother died from cancer. I want to be able to assist cancer patients and hopefully find a cure for it in the future.”
Olympiad boosts academic performance
He went on to explain that the Physical Science Olympiad was introduced to him by Mrs Mncwango, who is the Departmental Head for Physical Science at the school, and encouraged him to take part.
“They have really helped to boost my academics as we are in the process of writing our exams.”
His dedication to the science stream has already earned him several awards, including a laptop, certificates and cash prizes.
Looking ahead to inter-district competition
Ndlozi is now aiming to achieve a distinction in Physical Sciences when the matric results are released next year. He is set to represent his school at the Inter-District Physical Science Olympiad on September 23.
The KwaNotshelwa High School community is behind Ndlozi and has wished him the best of luck as he prepares for the next stage of the competition.
