Four killed as taxi overturns on N3

Paramedics went about assessing the patients and found that four people, three women and a man, had sustained numerous injuries and showed no signs of life

Monday morning started on a tragic note for passengers on a taxi travelling on the N3 south bound near Balgowan.

The taxi they were travelling in overturned several times at about 9.50am before coming to a standstill on the emergency lane.

When emergency personnel arrived on scene found the roadway littered with accident debris , the twisted frame of the taxi had come to rest on its wheels at the side of the roadway.

“Upon closer inspection, paramedics discovered that several people had been ejected from the vehicle when it rolled. Paramedics went about assessing the patients and found that four people, three women and a man, had sustained numerous injuries and showed no signs of life. Unfortunately, nothing could be done for the patients and they were declared dead on the scene,” commented ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring.

11 other patients were found on the scene with injuries ranging from minor to critical.

“Paramedics treated the patients and provided the critically injured with advanced life support interventions. Once treated, the patients were transported to various hospitals for urgent treatment,” added Mr Meiring.
