he meetings were held at the Talana Museum, which is home to an extensive archive collection on coal mining in the area and also features the coal mining heritage display.

Dundee was historically known as ‘Coalopolis’ because of the proliferation of coal mines in the area.
The town’s image as a coal mining centre continued at last Friday’s annual general meeting of the South African Collieries Manager’s Association (SACMA) and the South African Collieries Engineer’s Association (SACEA) – Southern Region.
The meetings were held at the Talana Museum, which is home to an extensive archive collection on coal mining in the area and also features the coal mining heritage display.
The Committee chosen to represent the Southern Region was:
Chairman (SACMA) – Derek Cooper
Chairman (SACEA) – TBA
Vice Chairman – Boetie Jewaskiewitz
Secretary – Helen Van Emmerik
Mine Rescue Services – Kobus Van Jaarsveld
Collieries Training College – Robert Grobler
Board of Trustees Representative (Talana Museum) – Bob Bentley
The new Chairman, Derek, thanked the outgoing committee and wished the incoming committee a good 2017.
