Saving lives is in your blood

Locals used the opportunity to support this worthy cause as 48 blood donors attended

Did you know one pint of blood can save up to three lives? The South African National Blood Service (SANBS) held their first monthly blood clinic at the town hall on Thursday, January 12 from 11am to 6pm.

Locals used the opportunity to support this worthy cause as 48 blood donors attended and 37 bled a pint blood. No new donors attended last Thursday’s blood donor clinic.

To all who attended, the support is greatly appreciated by the SANBS team and the Blood Clinic Co-ordinator. The next blood donor clinic will be hosted on Thursday, February 9.

The SANBS team will be visiting Drakensberg Secondary School and Estcourt High School between 9.30am and 2pm on February 1.
On February 2, at the same times, the team will be at Estcourt Secondary School.

If learners donate four times a year, they are guaranteed to get great prizes from SANBS. Last year scholar blood buddies received laptop bags and other fantastic gifts

Donating criteria
• You have to be between 16 and 65-years-old
• Weigh more than 50kg’s
• Lead a sexually safe lifestyle
• Be a committed regular donor
• Be in good health
• Remember to have a meal and plenty liquids before you donate blood.
