Road markings veer off course on Sutherland Street
Newcastle Mayor, Makhosini Nkosi, said he investigated the matter, and it has since been resolved.
NEWCASTLE CBD – Road markings in Sutherland Street has cost tax payers R3 200 so far.
This comes after the traffic technical staff painted the lines improperly on Monday, January 23, and then repainted today to resolve the issue.
Newcastle Mayor, Makhosini Nkosi, said he investigated the matter this morning, after the matter was brought to his attention on Monday.

“I can confirm it was indeed poor workmanship and have instructed that corrective measures be initiated,” he said.
Protection Services Chief Traffic Officer, Ashok Anandhaw, claimed while a supervisor did monitor the work, the site was visited on an ad hoc basis.
“He is also engaged in other operational duties, which include the making of signs and addressing complaints of missing sign boards.”
He mentioned the traffic technical staff responsible for the painting of the road markings, comprised of three people.
“They are responsible for Newcastle, oSizweni, Madadeni and Charlestown.”
However, despite their workload, he said this was no reason for painting the lines skew.
