Sewer flows like a river in Ladysmith industrial area

The problem has been reported numerous times by business owners in the area, but over and over again the blocked pipe continues to leak badly

Raw effluent is flowing like a river in Burger Street in the Ladysmith industrial area.

A sewage pipe has been blocked for the past few months, leaking and stopping and then leaking again, which has been an ongoing cycle.

Sewer water was seen going onto the road for almost 150 metres directly into a storm-water drain yesterday evening (January 28). Because the sewage is flowing into a storm-water drain, it will contaminate the river system.

Motorists have to drive through the smelly water and complain that their vehicles are getting dirty in the process.

The problem has been reported numerous times by business owners in the area, but over and over again the blocked pipe continues to leak badly.

The problematic situation is affecting businesses, as customers steer clear of the area due to the terrible smell.

Business owners want answers as to why the problem cannot be fixed once and for all so they can get back to normal working conditions.
