“Spooky Bridge” not safe for Ladysmith pedestrians
People's fear of crossing the bridge stems not only from the fact that it is right next to the graveyard and flanked by scary-looking trees
Many pedestrians fear for their lives while crossing the Cemetery Road pedestrian bridge every day, as they go to work and return to their homes.
Known by many as the “Spooky Bridge”, people’s fear of crossing it stems not only from the fact that it is right next to the graveyard and flanked by scary-looking trees.
Some of the barrier poles on the bridge are not there at all, while others are broken and dangling off the structure.
The Ladysmith Gazette ran a story about the state of the bridge on April 9, 2015, but up until now, nothing has been done to sort out this problem.
“It’s also very dangerous at night, as a criminal could easily attack and throw someone off,” said a terrified pedestrian.
We are awaiting comment from the municipality regarding this matter…
