Update: Cattle kraal structures near Model Kloof, Ladysmith, completely removed

After numerous complaints to the municipality, residents of Model Kloof have now expressed gratitude on seeing that the kraal structures have been completely removed

All the structures on the cattle farm that was set up near Model Kloof and Limit Hill, near the pedestrian bridge that runs over the N11 (Newcastle road), have now been removed.

This is much to the delight of residents who said the existence of the farm served to devalue their properties.

The kraal doubled as a business called ‘Sizabantu Livestock’, which sold cattle and goats.

Public Safety initially used a TLB to tear down the barriers that secured the livestock. However, a shack and fencing remained, which further angered nearby residents, who wanted all trace of the farm removed. They feared that the cattle kraal could spring up again or that the shack could be used for criminal activities.

Complaints also centred around the flies that were attracted to the area and the terrible smell of cattle dung lingering in the air, all constituting a hygiene hazard.

After numerous complaints to the municipality, residents of Model Kloof have now expressed gratitude on seeing that the kraal structures have been completely removed.

“We are very pleased. We have been fighting this battle of getting the kraal removed for quite some time and now we are more than happy because things are back to normal again,” said resident Mr Dlamini.
