WATCH: ‘We’re ready for Formula 1…’
"This would be great for South Africa," states local F1 fan, Mike Scannell. "If we can get F1 back to Kyalami, it will open so many doors," he adds. "Perhaps it might even attract MotoGP. Who knows...?"
THE prospect of South Africa being included in the F1 calendar has locals elated.
Local fans at Vryheid Country Club, one of the few clubs in Vryheid where fans of Formula one can watch the races on a Sunday during F1 season, recall with fondness the history of Kyalami and what it meant for South African fans.

Jody Scheckter put South Africa on the motorsports map when he became the 1979 Formula 1 World Champion.
“This would be great for South Africa,” states local F1 fan, Mike Scannell. “If we can get F1 back to Kyalami, it will open so many doors,” he adds. “Perhaps it might even attract MotoGP. Who knows…?”
“Now that they’ve upgraded the track, it’s going to be fantastic,” says Mike. “because now we’re ready for Formula 1…”
Please note: Non-members of Vryheid Country Club who would like to watch Formula 1 at the club are welcome, but must be signed in by a member.
