VRYHEID Home Affairs is urging locals who have applied for their smart card IDs to collect them as soon as they are notified to do so.

606 IDs sit gathering dust at Home Affairs as the owners have still not returned to collect them.

“We are urging members of the public to come forward and collect their ID documents as soon as they receive the SMS notifying them that they are ready because we are running out of space to store all these IDs” said Home Affair’s Phumlani Mchunu.

Mr Mchunu also added that parents need to remember to register their newborns within 30 days as the late registration of birth process is a very long one.
