Alfred Street floods…again

A businessman from Alfred Street, who has complained about the road flooding previously, was incensed on Monday when the blocked drains caused flooding in the street again

Doing business in Alfred Street has become nearly impossible for some business owners, especially when there has been steady or heavy rain. The wet spell that we experienced on Sunday and Monday meant that some businesses had to keep their doors closed, as the rainwater flooded their shops, sidewalks as well as parts of the road.

A businessman from Alfred Street, who has complained about the road flooding previously, was incensed on Monday when the blocked drains caused flooding in the street again.

“The drains in this road are too small and they are always blocked.  “This is a new road, the municipality has spent millions on the rehabilitation project and yet, look at it,” said the man, pointing to the water logged road, potholes and damaged road surfaces.

“Every time we have rain, we have to close our businesses for up to two days.  “This is not right,” he added.

This businessman has called Inkosi Langalibalele Local Municipality to alert the relevant department of the flooding but says that no positive response has been given. The Estcourt News has conveyed these concerns to the municipality’s communication department, who has acknowledged receipt and promised to pass it along to the relevant department.
