Service delivery for Lorne Street?

According to a disgruntled businessman, who would like to remain anonymous, he has contacted the municipality numerous times for these issues to be addressed

The current conditions in Lorne Street have business people up in arms. Potholes, cracked road surfaces, refuse bags lined up along the road side and blocked drains are a few of the issues business people and residents in Lorne Street are talking about.

According to a disgruntled businessman, who would like to remain anonymous, he has contacted the municipality numerous times for these issues to be addressed. He claimed that workers would be sent out and the most action they would take is having a look and remove a few bricks before leaving.

“This gives off a bad reflection of the services we, as business people, try to offer to the community. With scholars using this route to return home after school, this also poses great danger,” fumed the businessman.

“Lorne Street is one of our town’s entrances, yet the municipality fails to maintain it. I feel that simply improving the image of our town, will help boost our local economy. Who doesn’t enjoy supporting a safe and clean business?” he added.

Residents, as well as business people of Lorne Street, want to know if the municipality will meet the required standard of service delivery. Business people in the area say for as long as they recall, the gutters have not been cleaned.

The run-off of sand from a neighbouring bank contributes to the gutters becoming blocked. One stormwater drain can be seen badly damaged and can easily cause harm to the people who use the sidewalk.

“A woman previously slipped and fell into the sidewalk when municipal workers removed the bricks to access the stormwater drain tunnel and had not replaced them. Since then, other bricks have come loose and cracked,” added the businessman.

The municipality has been made aware of the above concerns.
