Rumour of deadly snake attacking people at water point proves false
COUNCILLOR Lawrence Dube says that he would like to set the record straight regarding the allegations that a snake at a water collection point was attacking people in his ward.

COUNCILLOR Lawrence Dube says that he would like to set the record straight regarding the allegations that a snake at a water collection point was attacking people in his ward.
According to Cllr Dube, although the particular collection point in question is surrounded by bushes, the story of a snake biting people there is not true.
“The reason why this story surfaced is because a young man passed away in Lakeside in December last year and the post-mortem reported that the cause of his death had been due to a snake-bite. The family said that they suspected he might have been bitten under a certain tree in their yard, which he had always like to sit under for its shade. I am not sure how the story went from that to being that the man had been bitten near the water collection point,” said Cllr Dube.
Cllr Dube said that the only reasons there could be snakes in the area is due to how untidy the area around the collection point is.
“As a community we did try to have a cleaning up campaign in January and we were hoping that municipal workers would meet us halfway but to no avail. We need a grader in the area to move certain dirt away; the grass around this water collection point also needs to be cut. I have done my best to bring these issues forward but nothing has been done to this day,” said Cllr Dube.
The councillor said that he encourages community members to continue using this collection point, as the rumours of a snake nesting there are not true.
