Trees pose a hazard in Mondlo

MEMBERS of Mondlo are demanding the municipality’s attention regarding the matter of trees hanging over power-lines in the area.

According to community member, Mr Enoch Mdlalose, the matter which seems to be worse in Jobe Street, was reported to the ward councillor who promised to send people to deal with the issue by the next day, but this never happened.

“As a community we are concerned about the hazard these trees are posing. We have already had one fall onto the power-lines and, although no one was hurt at the time, we are still worried that it is only a matter of time before an unfortunate incident occurs,” said Mr Mdlalose.

The community says that they currently cannot chop down the trees themselves, as they were instructed by the municipality to take such matters to them.

“We are now very frustrated about this matter and demand to know whether the municipality will only believe that there is a problem once someone is seriously hurt,” continued Mr Mdlalose.

The Vryheid Herald was awaiting comment from the municipality regarding the matter at the time of going to print.
