Fed-up Fairleigh residents publicly voice their grievances

Fed-up with the increase in crime and lack of service delivery, these residents said they had enough.

FAIRLEIGH – Residents in Fairleigh voiced their grievances in a public meeting on Sunday, February 5. Allegedly neglected by their ward councillor and they claimed, their cries had fallen on deaf ears.

Fed-up with the increase in crime and lack of service delivery, these residents said they had enough.

They claimed Fairleigh used to be peaceful for many years until the exponential growth of Siyahlala-la, Informal Settlement that allegedly gave rise to an increase in crime as well as drug and substance abuse.

“We no longer feel safe in our homes,” said a resident.

Democratic Alliance (DA) councillors attended the meeting..

“As a DA councillor, it is part of our job to do oversight visits and that is exactly what we have done by being part of this public meeting. We will continue with our visits because to us people matter, even after the elections,” said DA councillor, Muzi Ndlovu.

A petition against the high crime rate in the area was also signed.
