Weather update: Uthukela District Municipality has issued an urgent flash flood and flood warning for Northern KZN

The district disaster management team have been put on standby

UThukela District Municipality has issue a warning to the public to be on high alert as heavy rain continues to fall-non-stop.

We would like to warn people especially those who live along the river banks to stay on alert as floods are imminent which could lead to rivers to overflow.

“This also goes to the community or families who live in the houses built from mud,” explains uThukela spokesperson Jabulani Mkhonza

“The structure of the houses cannot withstand the impact of the floods. They are also vulnerable to collapse simply because of the no-stop rain.” he added.

The district disaster management team have been put on standby assist the communities should the need arise.

People should refrain from crossing over flooded rivers as this could lead to a disaster of being swept away.

Precautionary measures should be practiced by the communities at all times.
